The move is a little disappointing for the Vikings, as they invested $340k of guaranteed money into him as an undrafted free agent after the 2023 NFL Draft. He stayed on the active roster for a year before spending the entire year on the practice squad.

It was obvious that Carter was being passed over by 2024 UDFAs Bo Richter and Gabe Murphy with the former having already been elevated to the active roster earlier this year.

Carter is nearly 6'7 and 270 lbs with an explosive athletic profile. The theory was the Vikings could develop him into an intriguing player, but it was a long curve. Carter played his college football at Army and having to train as both a soldier and football player hinders your core strength because the types of training are counterintuitive.

The Vikings now have one practice squad open which will likely be filled this week.
