The Oklahoma Sooners started the transfer portal slowly, but things are really starting to pick up for the school in Norman, Oklahoma. It all started with a punter, the first acquisition that had fans' arms up in the air. Then, they started to land more and more players, like wide receiver Javonnie Gibson.

Right before landing one of the best players in the country in quarterback John Mateer, the Sooners landed another wide receiver with elite traits.

Sooners land WR Keontez Lewis in transfer portal

Keontez Lewis started his college football journey at UCLA in 2021, coming in as a three-star recruit from East Saint Louis, Illinois, and ranked as the No. 7 prospect in his state by Pro Football Focus. As a true freshman for the Bruins, he appeared in all 11 games but didn't record any receptions, focusing mainly on special teams.

After one season, he moved to the University of Wisconsin. In 2022, he made a significant impact, playing all 13 games with 20 receptions for 313 yards and three touchdowns. His role diminished in 2023 with new team dynamics, prompting him to enter the transfer portal after only one catch for 12 yards.

He then joined Southern Illinois for the 2024 season, where he had a standout performance, catching 49 passes for 813 yards and eight touchdowns, establishing himself as a key deep threat. On December 18, 2024, Lewis announced his commitment to Oklahoma, making it his fourth school.

With one year of eligibility remaining, his experience and recent productivity at Southern Illinois position him as a valuable asset for the Sooners, particularly after losing receivers like Nic Anderson, Jalil Farooq, and Andrel Anthony. Known for his effectiveness as an outside receiver (X or Z), his 6-foot-2, 190-pound frame is well-suited for this role.

The Sooners still have a lot of work to do, especially on offense, but man, some of the moves they are starting to make are shaping up to be good ones.
