The NCAA Transfer Portal continues to be an incredibly busy place, seeing thousands and thousands of talented college football players enter over the last couple of weeks in order to find new homes. All levels have been affected, seeing players transfer up, transfer down, and still eyeing potential fits.

On Saturday, a really gifted and underrated FCS pass catcher entered when South Dakota State star Griffin Wilde made his intentions known. The sophomore is coming off of a stellar season for the Jackrabbits in his first year as a starter. In 15 games, he hauled in 70 receptions for 1,147 yards and 12 touchdowns. That is an average of 16.4 yards per reception.

The 6-2, 200-pound pass catcher is known for his big speed. Wilde put together some incredible performances in 2024, including hauling in seven receptions for 150 yards and a touchdown against Oklahoma State during the first game of the season. In total, Wilde went for over 100 yards in five different contests.

If Wilde were open to opportunities, there’s a very good chance the market for him would be huge. The South Dakota native did enter the portal with a “do not contact tag”, which basically means that he knows where he’s transferring to. So just which lucky school is already the destination for Wilde?

It appears that there’s a very good chance that Washington State is that destination. Former South Dakota State head coach Jimmy Roger’s has been announced as the next Cougars head coach, which would make a lot of sense for this Wilde decision. During his two years in the position with the Jackrabbits, Roger’s accumulated a 27-3 overall record. He was on staff for both their recent FCS national championships.

Wilde is a great potential early grab for Coach Rogers. It was pretty apparent that the South Dakota speedster was a legitimate high-level FBS talent this past fall. Now Wilde gets a chance to prove himself on a bigger stage.
