The Green Bay Packers are getting a major piece of their offense back. According to NFL Network's insider Tom Pelissero, the team will activate tight end Luke Musgrave from the injured reserve on Monday ahead of the primetime game against the New Orleans Saints. The Packers have an open roster spot, so no corresponding move is necessary.

The second-year player got injured against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 4 and has not played since. He was placed on injured reserve ahead of Week 6 and was eligible to return for a month, but his ankle injury was still an issue.

"He's actually looked pretty good out there the past couple days, so we'll see," head coach Matt LaFleur said on Friday. "Just watched him take a lot of the scout team reps. He's running fast. We didn't have pads on this week, but I do think that everything I've seen from him, he looks pretty good."

While Musgrave lost the starting job to Tucker Kraft even before getting injured, he brings a different element to the offense. And that deep-threat dimension gives quarterback Jordan Love exactly what the franchise player does best: Hunt big plays.

"He's got something that you can't really coach, in terms of just the speed that he brings out on the field," LaFleur added. "It's not like we would go out there and play him 70 snaps, but if we can ease him back into it, I think it would be really good for him and for us."

As a rookie, Musgrave played 11 regular season games, most of them before a serious kidney injury. He had 34 receptions for 352 yards, and a touchdown. He also scored against the Dallas Cowboys in the playoffs. This year, he appeared in four games, with five receptions for 22 yards.

Beyond Kraft and Musgrave, the tight end room has Ben Sims and John FitzPatrick. Rookie Messiah Swinson is on the practice squad.
