Latest Packers’ offensive addition quietly creates even more roster competition where it’s needed most
Green Bay signed UFL champion wide receiver Kaden Prather as depth search at the position continues.
The Green Bay Packers added another piece to their wide receiver room, signing UFL champion Kaden Prather. He’s a big-bodied 6-3, 209-pound offensive weapon. The move continues a pattern of investments in offensive depth after the Packers lost significant contributors this offseason.
Green Bay parted ways with Romeo Doubs in free agency (signed by the New England Patriots) and traded Dontayvion Wicks to the Philadelphia Eagles, leaving the roster thin behind its top targets.
Who is Kaden Prather
Prather played two seasons at West Virginia and two seasons at Maryland during his college career. The Buffalo Bills selected him in the seventh round of last year’s draft, but he did not make the 53-man roster. He then landed with the Louisville Kings of the UFL in 2026, catching nine passes for 148 yards during the regular season. Prather earned a UFL championship with the Kings, though his postseason role was limited to one reception for one yard.
The Packers’ offense is heavily leaning on Christian Watson, Matthew Golden, and Jayden Reed as its primary wide receivers heading into the 2026 season. That trio carries talent, but the depth behind them remains a work in progress.
Green Bay has signed multiple pieces to address the issue. The most notable addition to the room was Skyy Moore, who profiles more as a returner than a traditional wide receiver. Head coach Matt LaFleur has said Moore can still produce something for the offense as the group continues to develop. The team also added J. Michael Sturdivant, an undrafted rookie, as another developmental option.
The timing of Prather’s signing may not be a coincidence. Brenden Rice, the son of NFL legend Jerry Rice, was another recent addition to the Packers’ receiver room. Rice was placed on the non-football injury list, though, which could explain why Green Bay moved quickly to bring in another body at the position.
With training camp underway, the Packers are still searching for reliable answers behind their top three receivers. Prather’s UFL experience and previous NFL exposure with the Bills give him a baseline of professional reps, but earning a roster spot in a crowded room will require a strong camp. For general manager Brian Gutekunst and the coaching staff, the priority is to build enough depth behind the top guys.
