The New Orleans Saints have already been eliminated from playoff contention, and it's looking likely they'll have a top ten pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. For a new head coach, that could be enticing, but questions along the roster and limited cap space room will both hinder the outlook of the job.

Regardless, the Saints front office will convey a full head coaching search this offseason, and a former assistant and player in New Orleans is already on their radar – for good reason.

Aaron Glenn

According to Adam Schefter, the current Detroit Lions defensive coordinator is a potential target for the Saints. They're expected to have interest in Glenn.

"One of the candidates expected to be square on their radar will be [Lions DC] Aaron Glenn…" — Adam Schefter

Glenn has no head coaching experience in the NFL, but he's now been an assistant for a decade.

He was the Saints' defensive backs coach for five seasons from 2016 through 2020 under head coach Sean Payton. After some extremely successful seasons in the secondary in black and gold, the Lions hired him as their defensive coordinator.

Even without top end talent, particularly on the back end, the Lions defense has been one of the grittiest units in the NFC in recent seasons. They were a key reason that Detroit made the NFC Championship game a season ago.

Glenn also finished his NFL playing career with the Saints in 2008. The former cornerback played fifteen seasons  in the pros. He is 52 years old.

Reuniting Glenn with the Saints makes a ton of sense, considering his connections with the city, fan base, and team. While he won't be coaching many of his former defenders, there's no doubt that he is a fit in New Orleans to be their next HC.

The former Saints assistant will be quite sought after around the league this offseason.
