Every week we see crazy things happen around the NFL that just leave you thinking… woah. That was the case for what one former Buckeye did for his team in Week 15.

Sam Hubbard has been an important player for the Cincinnati Bengals the last few years on the defensive side of the football. However, the biggest impact that he made in the win over the Tennessee Titans happened to be on offense.

With just over five minutes remaining until halftime, Hubbard caught his first touchdown reception on a two-yard pass from quarterback Joe Burrow. Hubbard had sparingly seen time at tight end this season for the Bengals since he is known for being a defensive end after all.

“Yeah, that was a big play in the game,” Burrow said after the win. “I had faith in Sam to go make that play, he's got good hands. And it's a play we've talked about. So, I think that was a four-down situation that's why we ended up going with that one. Felt good.”

It was actually quite the catch for Hubbard, who had to show some athleticism to go up and make the catch. Hubbard was a lacrosse player before his playing days at Ohio State and was one of the top athletes in the country coming out of the class of 2014 in high school. Hubbard, who attended Moeller High School in Cincinnati, picked the Buckeyes over Miami, Michigan, and Notre Dame.

Hubbard finished with one catch, one touchdown, and one tackle in the 37-27 win on Sunday

In his seventh NFL season, Hubbard is having one of his least productive seasons yet with just two sacks. Hubbard had at least six sacks in four of the previous five seasons and his best year as a pro came in 2019 when he piled up 8.5 sacks.

Hubbard had seven sacks as a junior at Ohio State and that season led to him being a third-round pick by the Bengals. In 104 career games, Hubbard has made 38.5 sacks in the NFL.

The former Buckeye had just one touchdown previously and that came as a fumble return for a touchdown as a rookie. It is safe to say that Hubbard will never forget his first and possibly only offensive touchdown in the NFL.
