The San Francisco 49ers have made it official, De'Vondre Campbell's time with the team is over.

General manager John Lynch confirmed the Niners have suspended Campbell for the final three games of the season following his refusal to enter the game during the third quarter of their defeat to the Los Angeles Rams last Thursday.

A short statement from Lynch reflected the 49ers' desire to move on from the episode.

Said Lynch: "We have suspended De'Vondre Campbell Sr. for three games due to conduct detrimental to the team. We will have no further comment on the matter."

Campbell was sent from the sideline by Lynch following his refusal to enter the game after Dre Greenlaw's exited with soreness on his long-awaited return from his Achilles injury. In addition to Greenlaw, Dee Winters also vaulted above Campbell on the depth chart for the game but suffered a neck injury.

After Campbell rejected the opportunity to go into the game, Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles played the rest of the contest next to Fred Warner at linebacker.

Campbell's one-year contract features a $1.21 million base salary. It also contains a $20,000 per game roster bonus.

In addition to forfeiting his final three pay checks and the per game roster bonus, amounting to $261,666, the 49ers can now attempt to recoup some of Campbell's $3.35 million signing bonus.

Per Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk, Campbell's refusal to play amounts to forfeitable breach of contract, allowing them to recoup 25 percent of the bonus. However, because the bonus is spread over four extra void years, only $670,000 is allocated to 2024, meaning the Niners can recover $167,500.

Providing both are healthy enough to do so, Greenlaw and Winters will likely play WILL and SAM linebacker respectively for the 49ers' final three games of the season. San Francisco faces the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.
