The San Francisco 49ers wrapped up the second day of training camp on Monday and it didn’t end without more injury drama for the team, however, this time the 49ers got good news on the injury front.

Rookie third-round pass rusher Romello Height was carted off the field during Monday’s practice after suffering an apparent injury with the medical staff working on his right leg and both arms, according to Matt Maiocco. Fortunately, the team later announced that Height was dealing with cramps and not any serious injuries.

It’s a reminder of how quickly things can change this time of year with practice back in session. Just a few days ago Carolina Panthers second-year pass rusher Nic Scourton was carted off the field at practice and later diagnosed with a torn ACL. It’s always a scary situation when the cart comes out and thankfully Height received good news.

Romello Height was off to a strong start at training camp after Sunday’s first session

Height was one of the team’s standout performers from Sunday’s practice, the first session of training camp. The rookie was seen mixing in with the first-team defense and got strong endorsements from the top player at his position.

“Romello, just rookie-wise, I’ve never seen a guy come in and get the scheme as quickly and seamlessly as he has,” 49ers star pass rusher Nick Bosa said, via KNBR 680’s “Murph & Markus”. “Even when vets come in who haven’t played in this scheme. He’s gotten it even quicker than I did.”

Coming into the draft, Height’s relentless play-style and length were top aspects of his game. The main question was whether or not he could add more strength and weight as a run defender while refining his skillset as a pass rusher. The 49ers clearly saw a vision for this guy and it was evident he could be a impactful player right out of the gate based on Sunday’s practice.

“Just the way he picked it up, it seems like second nature to him,” Bosa added. “He’s super explosive, he’s got a bag of tricks in pass rush that you could tell he’s been coached well. He’s a little older for a rookie, so that might be part of it, but I think he’s going to contribute pretty quick.”

The 49ers have a scheduled jog-through with no media access on Tuesday followed by a practice session on Wednesday with a scheduled off day on Thursday. We’ll see how the 49ers manage Height throughout the rest of the week, but it’s clear he’s already proving to be the perfect fit in Raheem Morris’ scheme as long as he stays healthy.
