We are four months away from the greatest spectacle in the National Football League calendar: the NFL Draft.

Right now, mock drafts aren't so much about trying to be predictive but rather to match up different prospects to teams based on both needs and prospect fits. It will also show the general range of a lot of prospects at the current time. Some of them will stay in that range while others will either rise or fall.

For the Minnesota Vikings, general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah has a few obvious needs going into the offseason: cornerback, defensive line and running back. All of the mock drafts will likely have one of those positions.

Latest mock draft has Vikings taking a cornerback

The latest mock draft from our own Travis May at A to Z Sports has the Vikings doing just that by giving them East Carolina CB Shavon Revel Jr.

Shavon Revel Jr. is a long lean cover cornerback with tons of athletic upside, but the early-mid first projections are probably a bit too optimistic for a Group of Five Conference defender who will miss all of NFL Draft season due to a torn ACL. However, he's too good a value to let drop out of round one completely as the Vikings hope to bolster their leaky secondary that's surrendered the fourth most passing yards in the NFL so far this season.

The idea of getting Revel should excite the Vikings. He stands nearly 6-3 and over 200 lbs with excellent length and athleticism to thrive in how Brian Flores likes to play defense.

The one caveat that some will not like is that Revel tore his ACL in September. The last time the Vikings took an "injured cornerback" things didn't work out too well with 2022 second-round pick Andrew Booth Jr.

It's not the most ideal scenario, but Revel would not be available at this spot without his injury, as he was likely to go in the top 10-15. The Vikings get their young cornerback to make an impact on the roster for years to come.
