The Oregon Ducks are preparing for the biggest game of the season for them, a rematch with Ohio State in the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. While they look to conquer the college football world, former Oregon Ducks are making headlines in the NFL.
Justin Herbert, star quarterback for the Los Angeles Chargers, is finally getting some much-deserved respect with the Chargers clinching a spot in the playoffs. In doing so, Herbert, who has been statistically incredible since entering the league in 2020, is breaking records.
On his way to a 40-7 victory and a playoff berth, Herbert through for 281 yards and three touchdowns, passing Peyton Manning for the most passing yards in a player's first five seasons in NFL history.
A large part of the reason that Herbert hasn't gotten the love that he deserves as one of the game's best has to do with the coaching carousel that has taken place with the Chargers and the lack of team success. Since being drafted in 2020, Herbert has had three different head coaches and one interim coach, along with four offensive coordinators.
This year, it's finally all coming together, with the Chargers looking as strong as they have in years.
What's undeniable is that through all the coaching changes and the shuffling of personnel, Herbert has produced high-end numbers. He has a rocket for an arm, and with the right support system in place, it looks like Herbert is finally coming into his own.
Herbert has every opportunity to add to his resume in the playoffs. With one week remaining, there's plenty to sort out in terms of who they'll face on Wild Card Weekend. If he's able to take his team on a run, maybe he'll finally start getting recognized for the talent that he is.
