The NCAA Transfer Portal officially opened back up on Monday, and there are hundreds of student athletes who have already entered in order to look for different opportunities. One of the bigger names to enter so far is Purdue All-American safety Dillon Thieneman, who still has two years of eligibility remaining.
Over his two years with the Boilermakers, Thieneman has been outstanding. The Indiana native has recorded 210 total tackles, six interceptions, and 14 pass breakups. Thieneman has also collected 6.5 tackles for loss, one sack, and two forced fumbles. He has been a pillar of the defense during his time.
As you can imagine, the market for Thieneman has been crazy so far. It has been nothing like his recruitment coming out of Westfield, where Purdue, Indiana, Northwestern, and Minnesota were his only Power Four opportunities. Thieneman has heard from some heavy hitters since he entered.
There are two schools that have appeared to have separated themselves already with Thieneman, and should be looked at as leaders early on. Both Ohio State and Oregon have said to have demonstrated high interest, and are trending very quickly with the talented defender. Setting up visits to both should be finalized in the near future, which could continue to escalate things.
Ohio State is an interesting potential fit. They will be returning Caleb Downs next season, but Lathan Ransom is heading to the NFL after this campaign is concluded. Oregon starts two seniors at safety in comparison, and will need to replace both heading into the 2025 season.
At 6-0 and 207 pounds, Thieneman is a well-built safety who brings good power to the table, especially for being just a true sophomore. He is smooth, and instinctive, which allows him to make a ton of plays in coverage. His all-around game is extremely appealing to a long list of schools nationally.
