The Michigan Wolverines pulled off a stunning upset of the Ohio State Buckeyes Saturday, winning their fourth in a row over the Buckeyes 13-10.
The Wolverines did so thanks to a terrific showing from running back Kalel Mullings, who improved to 4-0 against Ohio State in his career.
Mullings was the entire Michigan offense, rushing the ball 32 times for 116 yards and a touchdown.
His most pivotal play came in the fourth quarter. Facing a third and six on the Ohio State 44, Michigan was aiming to set up for a long Dominic Zvada field goal to try and take the lead with around six minutes left.
Mullings gets the handoff, bounces off the line of scrimmage, and with a quick burst breaks through to the outside and turns a minimal gain into a 27-yard run. With that run, the Wolverines were able to grind down the clock and set up a first and goal, and a 50+ yard field goal became a chip shot for their elite kicker. Ohio State would turn it over on downs the next drive, and Michigan walked out of Columbus a winner.
After the game, a brawl broke out between the two teams after Michigan tried to plant its flag on the Ohio State logo. Once the dust settled there, Mullings was met postgame and had some choice words for the Buckeyes afterwards.
"That's [the fighting] is bad for the sport, bad for college football. At the end of the day, some people gotta learn how to lose. We had four quarters to do all that fighting and now people want to talk and fight? That's just wrong and it's bad for the game and classless in my opinion. People gotta be better."
When you go undefeated against Ohio State in your career and run all over them the entire game, you're entitled to say whatever you want, in my opinion. Credit to Mullings for speaking his mind. He's right. Ohio State showed more fight postgame than they did during the game, and it's why they lost.
