The Oklahoma Sooners had such a tough season in 2024. Yet, here we are celebrating the team, still, because Sooners football means so much to all of the fans and media covering and following the team despite the bad year. But this season has really been one that not many, if any, could have seen coming.
The Sooners finish the regular season at 6-6, with their inaugural SEC conference record being 2-6. That's good enough for fourth worst in the SEC, behind teams like Vanderbilt and Arkansas, two programs and schools that should be much worse than Oklahoma. And you can even throw Florida in there too with how their year started.
But also, so many different things happened during this season that threw everything off. Now, it's about the bowl game and moving forward to next year. What does next year hold? Do the players who are eligible to come back even want to come back? That's a tough question a lot of players are about to be asked.
Especially starting quarterback Jackson Arnold.
"Only God knows what's going to happen in the future," Arnold said after the loss to the LSU Tigers. "This next week, meet the OC, see who we hire, and take it day by day. There's nothing making me want to leave or waver from being here."
The Sooners will likely look in the transfer portal for another quarterback. But, it's clear that Arnold is not a bad quarterback. I think he's just still raw and needs some work. And, having an actual quarterbacks coach and a good offensive coordinator, with a good offensive line, would help, too.
Arnold wants to stay around. He's always wanted to be the quarterback at Oklahoma University. he still can, but the decision is up to him.
