There were a couple of bad signs on Thursday that served to suggest Brock Purdy will not play in the San Francisco 49ers' Week 12 game with the Green Bay Packers.
Purdy, dealing with shoulder soreness, left practice after just a few throws during Thursday's session and appeared to receive some treatment to his shoulder before exiting the field.
His lack of involvement in Thursday's practice came after a Wednesday session in which he did not throw the ball at all.
Concern was raised further when the 49ers pushed Purdy's usual Thursday press conference back to Friday, indicating it is up in the air which quarterback will be playing in a key matchup for San Francisco's dwindling playoff hopes. Brandon Allen would step up in the event of Purdy
But, speaking to KNBR on Thursday, head coach Kyle Shanahan sounded a somewhat hopeful tone about Purdy's chances of playing.
"He was still limited today, he didn't do as much yesterday but did a little bit more today," said Shanahan.
"He went out there and did a little bit then went back in about halfway through and rested up. Hopefully it will be feeling great on Sunday."
Shanahan's comments point to the 49ers playing it very safe and getting Purdy as much rest as possible in the hope the pain of his injury will have subsided come game time on Sunday.
But, with the Niners' playoff chances in the balance, this is the wrong time for San Francisco to be facing such a nervous wait.
