After Kyle Shanahan sounded a somewhat positive note on Brock Purdy's shoulder injury on Thursday, general manager John Lynch served to lower expectations around the San Francisco 49ers quarterback playing in the Week 12 clash with the Green Bay Packers.

Purdy did not throw on Wednesday and attempted only a few passes on Thursday before leaving practice owing to shoulder soreness suffered in last Sunday's surprise loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

Shanahan appeared to express some optimism regarding Purdy's potential status for a crucial game for the 49ers' seemingly dwindling playoff hopes when talking to KNBR on Thursday.

However, Lynch struck a more cautious tone when speaking to the same outlet.

"We've had a plan to try to try to quiet it down," said Lynch. "And Wednesday, didn't do any throwing. Kind of went out there and just did practice. Thursday, started to do some throwing, and then went inside and did some rehab, per the plan.

"So we'll see where he's at today. Hopefully, he makes progress, and we can have a shot at this weekend, but we'll see. I think it is tenuous."

Adding that Purdy had undergone an MRI on his throwing shoulder, Lynch explained: "We feel good about where it's at from that standpoint. But still, you have to be able to go out and operate. And so, we're kind of figuring all that out. Brock's going to show up here today, and we'll see where he can go in terms of practice, and we'll make some decisions accordingly."

Should Purdy be unable to play, Brandon Allen will get the start against Green Bay, though Joshua Dobbs will be prepared to play if required.

"Brandon Allen and Josh Dobbs would both be ready, but Brandon would get the first snaps," Lynch added.
