NASHVILLE — Brian Callahan informed the media on Friday afternoon that Tennessee Titans cornerback L’Jarius Sneed would be heading to Injured Reserve.

What was originally diagnosed as a bruised quad (day-to-day) has since turned into something much more severe and complicated.

Tennessee avoided placing Sneed on IR for five games, but he will now miss an additional four games with a strained quad. Callahan was very transparent in giving the reason for the move and the background of handling Sneed's injury.

"We thought he had a quad bruise. A pretty significant quad bruise, but it didn't get better very fast. Turns out after some scans on it, he had a pretty significant quad strain on top of it," said Callahan. "Those things generally are a couple of weeks. We felt like we had a chance to get him back. He has not progressed. It's been complicated. More complicated than a normal strain would be, so the rest is the best thing for him at this point."

Callahan would not rule out Sneed making a return before the end of the season, but it seems the "up and down, back and forth" injury could end up sidelining him for the season. Sneed will not be eligible to return until Week 16 in Indianapolis.

Something has always felt off about Sneed's injury status. Days after the Indianapolis game, Callahan claimed that Sneed was totally fine with no health issues. By the next weekend, Sneed was missing time.

When I spoke to Sneed in the Titans locker room last week, he told me he was "closer than close" to getting back. He also added that he was "surprised" it had taken so long, but also "knew it was significant" when it happened…again, something didn't add up.

This is the right call for the Titans. Sit him down and let him rest. Let Jarvis Brownlee Jr. and Darrell Baker Jr. cover Sneed's snaps for the next month. It's not like the defense is in dire need of him to save the season.
