The San Francisco 49ers were embarrassed on Sunday as they suffered a 38-10 loss at the hands of the Green Bay Packers, and afterwards Kyle Shanahan was in no mood to offer up much in the way of praise.

An error-strewn performance from the Niners saw them suffer another damaging setback in the race for the NFC playoffs and drop to 5-6 as they were emphatically humbled at Lambeau Field.

The 49ers were without starting quarterback Brock Purdy because of a shoulder injury, while Nick Bosa stayed at home with hip/oblique injuries and All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams was ruled out before kickoff with an ankle issue.

However, Shanahan made no excuses for his team despite the absence of arguably the 49ers' three most important players.

"I'm not concerned about how many guys we missed today, we didn't play good enough," Shanahan told his postgame press conference.

"When you are missing some guys, you do have to be better. When you have those penalties and we didn't stop the run like we did and having those three turnovers in the second half, that's how you get embarrassed."

The 49ers had nine penalties for 77 yards, including one that took away a long kick return from Deebo Samuel that would have put San Francisco on Green Bay eight-yard line to start the second.

San Francisco also struggled mightily with missed tackles, allowing 169 yards on the ground as Josh Jacobs scored three touchdowns.

Reigning Offensive Player of the Year Christian McCaffrey had just 31 yards rushing for the 49ers in his third game back from bilateral Achilles tendinitis.

Asked how McCaffrey performed, Shanahan perfectly summed up a team display that featured far too many self-inflicted wounds.

"I didn't see much from anybody today," Shanahan replied.

There were some bright spots for the 49ers. Leonard Floyd had two sacks on the defensive side of the ball, while George Kittle was impressive on his return from a hamstring injury, catching all six of his targets for 82 yards and a touchdown.

But as a collective the 49ers were way below their standard, and that is rightly all that matters to Shanahan. The problem is that they have been short of that standard for far too long this year. If they can't find out in the very near future, their slim playoff hopes will be all but extinguished.
