As is the case with most SEC teams, the Tennessee Vols will be losing several key players after the 2024 season.
Running back Dylan Sampson and edge rusher James Pearce are expected to declare for the 2025 NFL Draft. The Vols will also be losing several key players that won't have any eligibility left after this season, including four starting offensive linemen and several defensive linemen and wide receivers.
Tennessee will give opportunities to several of their younger players to fill some of those roles. The Vols will also utilize the NCAA transfer portal.
And according to On3, Tennessee is expected to be one of the "most aggressive spenders" in the transfer portal this offseason.
From On3: In the new age of college football, the portal has become a major piece of roster construction. Who will be the most aggressive spenders? Sources have indicated Florida, Michigan, Ole Miss, Oregon and Tennessee.
It's far too early to know what positions the Vols will specifically target in the transfer portal, though it's reasonable to suggest that Tennessee could look at offensive linemen, defensive linemen, secondary players, and wide receivers to help supplement the roster. The Vols love to add tight ends through the portal, so that could also be a possibility (especially if Alabama transfer Miles Kitselman isn't granted an additional season of eligibility).
The biggest takeaway from this report is that Tennessee isn't going to be afraid to spend this offseason. Wise portal additions can be the difference hosting a playoff game and not making the playoffs at all. Tennessee isn't as reliant on the portal as some other programs in college football, but they'll still need to win a few portal battles to put the best team possible on the field in 2025.
