The Longhorns made it to the SEC championship game, but Bevo XV did not, unfortunately.

Ricky Brennes, the executive director of the Silver Spurs Alumni Association, told A to Z Sports on Thursday that the SEC informed him there wasn’t enough sideline space at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

Thus, Bevo will not be making the trip this weekend. Uga, Georgia's bulldog mascot, will be there, though.

“We did everything we could to try to get him there and it just didn’t work out,” Bevo’s primary handler told A to Z Sports. “The SEC said they didn’t have enough space.”

An SEC spokesperson confirmed the space issue with the Austin American-Statesman.

In a statement to the Statesman, the SEC said it looked at several alternatives including the sideline location.

“The reality is there is limited sideline space at the stadium,” the SEC told the Statesman. “We can’t jeopardize the safety of Bevo or the game participants. With the narrow sidelines, location of multiple sets for television and camera carts, there is not enough space. While we want to honor tradition across the conference, the space limitation is a reality.”

Mercedes-Benz Stadium is also home to the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons. Bevo has stood on the sideline in numerous other NFL stadiums with no problem, including stadiums in New Orleans, Arlington and Houston.

Bevo is missing this game, but there’s always the College Football Playoffs.
