The Tennessee Vols will lose one of their top big play threats after the 2024 season with wide receiver Dont'e Thornton in his final season of eligibility.

Thornton, who transferred from Oregon to Tennessee ahead of the 2023 season, led the Volunteers in receiving during the regular season with 25 receptions for 647 yards and six touchdowns. The Maryland native averaged an impressive 25.9 yards per reception.

With Thornton (along with wide receiver Bru McCoy) moving on after the 2024 season, the Vols will have a couple of openings at the wide receiver position.

One player they should target is Oklahoma wide receiver Nic Anderson, a former four-star recruit from Texas who is expected to enter the NCAA transfer portal next week according to a report from 247Sports' Matt Zenitz.

Anderson would be a perfect replacement for Thornton in Tennessee's offense.

The 6-foot-4 wide receiver missed most of the 2024 season due to injury, but he was a dynamic player for the Sooners as a redshirt freshman in 2023, catching 38 passes for 798 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Anderson's most memorable moment at Oklahoma came when he caught the game winning touchdown against Texas in 2023.

Anderson averaged 21.0 yards per reception in 2023, which is in line with Thornton's insane yards per reception average this past season at Tennessee.

Thats' why the Vols would be wise to gauge Anderson's interest in playing on Rocky Top with Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava.

Anderson was at his best in 2023 while playing in a version of Josh Heupel's offense (Jeff Lebby, a former Heupel assistant, was Oklahoma's offensive coordinator in 2023), so the transition to playing at Tennessee would likely be smooth for the talented wide receiver.
