The Los Angeles Chargers came up just short in Week 14 against the Kansas City Chiefs. With a depleted secondary and minimal weapons at wide receiver, both units held their own at times against the reigning Super Bowl champions.
Justin Herbert took some hard hits but continued to battle. The defense made some big stops, especially on third down.
Ultimately, the Chiefs were able to throw the final punch, but it was not a game to disprove the potential that Los Angeles has already. They proved that they deserve plenty of respect in the 19-17 loss.
Harbaugh's team fights
In recent years, "Chargering" has become a phrase used to describe heartbreaking ways that the Chargers have found to lose ballgames. This game felt different.
They did fall in the closing moments, and it was on a wonky field goal make. That being said, they did not make a massive blunder themselves.
Simply put, Patrick Mahomes did Mahomes things alongside Travis Kelce to find a way to win. Shocking for Kansas City, right? They keep finding dramatic ways to narrowly survive week after week.
In the postgame media availability Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh basically said that the Chargers took a hit but did not perish. They all be ready for their next fight, a week 15 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Los Angeles proved yet again that they can contend with the "big dogs" of the NFL. Even in year one, the powder blue plays with more grit and intelligence than any season under Brandon Staley on both sides of the football.
