The San Francisco 49ers still have a very difficult path to make the playoffs despite their blowout win over the Chicago Bears in Week 14.

Part of the reason they are facing an uphill climb is a Week 3 defeat to the Los Angeles Rams in which the Niners let a 10-point fourth-quarter lead slip.

That is one of three games this season in which the 49ers have surrendered a fourth-quarter lead against a divisional opponent.

San Francisco, now 6-7, has the chance to avenge that dramatic loss in a rematch with the Rams on Thursday Night Football.

And the oddsmakers have given the 49ers a slight edge in the contest, San Francisco opening as a two-point favorite, per OddsTrader.

With the home team typically given an advantage of two or two-and-a-half points, the opening line amounts to the primetime matchup being treated as a toss-up.

That makes sense given the teams are in very different positions from where they started the season.

Los Angeles has both its star receivers (it had neither in Week 3), with Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua forming a devastating tandem, and is coming off a big-time shootout win over the Buffalo Bills that moved the Rams to 7-6.

San Francisco, by contrast, was left fighting for its playoff life after a blowout loss to the Bills in the snow in Buffalo in Week 13. A 38-13 victory over the Bears on Sunday kept the 49ers in the mix, but a San Francisco team beset by injuries is still a longshot to get into the postseason.

As such, it would be no surprise if the odds had flipped by the time the Niners and Rams kick off. For now, though, the 49ers are the favorites to claim what would be a crucial division win and a big step towards pulling off an unlikely run towards a playoff place.
