The Dallas Cowboys' season isn't going quite as expected so far, as they sit at 3-3 after a 49-7 blowout at home.
So why not change pace a little bit here and take a break from the 2024 season coverage and instead look at the latest NFL mock draft from A to Z Sports?
In it, the Cowboys landed one of the most exciting players from the 2025 draft class and it's not the one that's consistently being tied with Dallas: RB Ashton Jeanty. In this scenario, Jeanty was off the board at 15th overall. The Cowboys, however, arguably got even better value at 19th overall by taking one of the best wide receivers in the class.
Round 1, Pick 19: Emeka Egbuka, WR Ohio State
In a collaborative mock in which my fellow writers took turns making picks, Destin Adams gave the Cowboys none other than Ohio State WR Emeka Egbuka:
The Cowboys have severely underperformed to start the season, and there are multiple position groups they could target with this pick. I would have loved to give them RB Ashton Jeanty out of Boise State but unfortunately he didn't make it to this pick. I ended up selecting Ohio State WR Emeka Egbuka to give Dak Prescott a potential lethal receiver duo of CeeDee Lamb and Egbuka. – Destin Adams
Despite the fact that the team just paid CeeDee Lamb a humongous deal, the Cowboys will be in bad need for a wide receiver. Brandin Cooks will hit free agency in 2025 and although Jalen Tolbert has had his flashes, the offense could seriously use someone like Egbuka, who is considered a great route runner, something Troy Aikman recently blasted his former team for lacking.
He's also stood out as a well-rounded player and the Cowboys love wide receivers who block, something Egbuka does extremely well and is more than willing to do:
It's a long road from now until April and it's too early to tell what positions they'll be targeting. But wide receiver makes sense. After Jerry Jones asked Dak Prescott to "do more with less" it might be time to actually help out the quarterback.
