The Las Vegas Raiders, historically over the last 10 years and maybe even further back than that, have not drafted well. They have had classes that have a great player or two in the class, but then everyone else is bad or a bust.
The Raiders have gotten much better, though, at that. Just this last draft as you can see already before their rookie season is anywhere near over, they have potential to be great. Last year had some of that, too, with tight end Michael Mayer, cornerback Jakorian Bennett, who is one of the best under-the-radar guys in the league right now, and Tre Tucker, too, who have all shown glimpses of greatness.
And then there are the Tyree Wilson and others that this franchise has drafted, where, there is just really nothing there that shows this guy can be a great football player. It seems like Wilson will be a miss, and, that happens to every team, but to the Raiders a lot.
This class already seems to have at least two players who will be cornerstone players for the future of this franchise. Tight end Brock Bowers is the best tight end in the league so far this season and it isn't close.
Jackson Powers-Johnson has been really good, and the tape shows that he will be elite eventually, whether it's later this year or next season, it will come.
And, while those two are dominating on the field, they are also doing things off the field to help the team, too, like keeping up the vibes and chemistry during hard times. So much so, that JPJ got Bowers a little gift, and it's hilarious.
Bowers is indeed the best tight end in the league right now when you look at the numbers. But, he happens to be coming in while the league is in a down year across the board at the position.
What a thoughtful gift for one of the very few bright spots on this offense. Let's see if he can do that against a big time defense in the Kansas City Chiefs, just like he did last week against the Los Angeles Rams, and against the Pittsburgh Steelers and Denver Broncos the weeks before that.
