Las Vegas Raiders need to be thanking the New England Patriots for doing what the Kansas City Chiefs couldn’t
The Las Vegas Raiders are now 3-2, and while the team is still headed in the right direction, they needed to be humbled by the Patriots.
The Las Vegas Raiders are walking out of Gillette Stadium in New England with a feeling they haven’t felt all season. The New England Patriots just did Klint Kubiak’s team a favor. They did what the Kansas City Chiefs failed to do.
Vegas started the year 3-0 for the first time since 2021. The Chiefs should have humbled them and shown them what it takes to build a good football team over the years. They should have been the team to show them it doesn’t happen overnight, or in the span of three weeks; so the Raiders get the reality check every team needs on the way to becoming a team that knows how to win.
Patriots humbled the Raiders in a good way
New head coach Klint Kubiak, new quarterback Kirk Cousins playing amazingly, and Fernando Mendoza waiting in the wings to become the franchise guy.
Then you have a very talented running back in Ashton Jeanty, the best tight end in football in Brock Bowers, an improved offensive line, Maxx Crosby, and a young defense with some great potential. The vibes were high, even after the self-inflicted wounds that cost them the game against the Chiefs.
They needed a butt whooping. The Raiders needed to be humbled. Now, no one is saying they were cocky or showing anything like that. But this is a young team, a lot younger than people realize. And this team is still learning how to win.
Learning how to win is more than just starting 3-9. A season is 17 games long, and they got whooped by the team that did that the best in the AFC last season. The Patriots were in the Super Bowl, and they humbled Las Vegas in a great way.
In a way, the Raiders’ loss to the Chiefs felt like a moral victory. And you have to know the team felt that way too, despite what anyone is saying. They needed to lose like this to a team as good as the Patriots. They started slow and slouchy, and that bit them in the butt.
If anything, this game should be one they look back on. This game should be the one they remember throughout their journey the most. It may or may not work out that way, but you can’t help but feel Vegas will be better after a loss like that one.
