According to The Minneapolis Star Tribune's Andrew Krammer, the Minnesota Vikings are likely to be without starting inside linebacker Blake Cashman on Sunday against the Detroit Lions.
Not only is his status in serious jeopardy against the Lions, he also could be out against the Los Angeles Rams, as they will play four days later on Thursday night in week eight.
The loss of Cashman is one that could be massive for the Vikings' defense. He plays nearly 100% of the snaps and can do a little bit of everything, especially as a coverage linebacker. This season, Cashman has done a little bit of everything, accumulating six pressures and three passes defended.
Without Cashman, the Vikings will be relying on fellow starter Ivan Pace Jr. to shoulder the load. He is more of a specialist at linebacker with his skillset being more focused on blitzing and playing the run. It also means Kamu Grugier-Hill will be relied upon more and he's played well this season, including two interceptions.
The Vikings could also slide someone like Josh Metellus into the box and ask him to do a little bit more on the second level.
With the Lions having one of the best running games in the National Football League, not having Cashman could have a major impact.
