Every week we predict game outcomes, score predictions, and forecast just what we will get from Notre Dame football. This week against Georgia Tech will be no different. There are strengths on both sides, and some major areas of concern. In the end, this game will come down to one thing, which Notre Dame team we are going to get this Saturday.
In most weeks, there are a large amount of potential outcomes we could see. In this matchup against the Yellow Jackets, there are really two that stand out most. Both of them, however, will give us a very good idea for what to expect from this team the rest of the season.
One potential outcome is that the Irish dominate. Yes, Georgia Tech is a talented team on paper with a lot of speed on the offensive side of the football, but there is still a massive talent gap. When Notre Dame is prepared and mentally ready, it’s not hard to see the level of talent. If Marcus Freeman has his team ready to go, this could be decisive.
The other potential reality is what we have seen too much, Notre Dame coming out flat and playing to match Georgia Tech, but not to command the momentum. That is going to lead to a close game that unfortunately could go either way. This is a game where I just don’t see the Yellow Jackets coming out and dominating; the talent advantage is just too far in Notre Dame’s favor.
If we do see the latter on Saturday, it’s time to really panic if you’re Notre Dame. There’s no reason that the Irish shouldn’t dominate this matchup. The only thing that can hold this team back is themselves.
In the case that Notre Dame does come out and flex their muscles, that could show massive growth. We don’t need to see any more playing down or up to your opponents. Coming out and controlling the tempo and momentum of this game can show that there has been a mental evolution over the last few weeks. People will continue to talk about injuries, but this Irish team can compete with anyone if they are locked in and prepared.
That has been by far the most frustrating part of this 2024 team. You see the talent. You see the upside, but then you see the mental lapses at times. Notre Dame must show that mindset maturation against the Yellow Jackets in Mercedes Benz Stadium, and make a real statement.
