Earlier this week, many were caught off guard when Pittsburgh Steelers HC Mike Tomlin opened the door for Russell Wilson to take over the starting QB role.

That much was cemented yesterday when players noted that Wilson took first-team reps during Wednesday's practice.

But on Thursday, Justin Fields showed why he's such a class act, and why even if he heads to the bench for the rest of the season, his future is bright in Pittsburgh:

Fields Wishes He Played Better

"I mean, I don't think I've played good enough, if I am being real with you," Fields told the media when asked a potential change at QB. "If I am being real with myself, I think if I did play well enough I don't think there would be any sort of who should be playing and who should not. At the end of the day, we got a few wins and of course I am glad about that but there are area that I can get better at and I am going to continue to work on those and continue to get better."

For what it's worth, Fields has led the team to a 4-2 start and is on pace to account for 30 total TDs to only six interceptions. Combine that with his obvious love from the locker room and fans within the organization, and it's hard to reconcile the decision from Mike Tomlin.

Could Fields have played better in recent weeks? Probably. Last week was one of his most inconsistent games yet, but he still lead the team to their largest margin of victory and highest output all year as he helped hang 32 on the Las Vegas Raiders.

And how about the second half of the Los Angeles Chargers game, where Fields put the team on his back en route to a win on the road? Not good enough? Well what about the Indianapolis Colts game? The team came up short, but it surely wasn't because of the over 350 total yards of offense to go along with three TDs and no turnovers from Fields.

So in reality, Fields is showing his makeup and his strong character. The truth is, barring a 6-0 start and MVP candidacy for Fields, Mike Tomlin was always going to pull the plug on him in favor of Russell Wilson, no matter how little sense that seems to make at this current juncture.
