Week 8 of college football brings with it some massive marquee matchups between some of the biggest brands in the sport and Georgia vs. Texas might be the best game of them all.
Georgia should be the toughest test that Texas has faced this season by far. Texas could prove to be the impactful bounce back win Georgia needs after losing to Alabama just a few short weeks ago in dramatic fashion.
Heading into this epic battle between the Bulldogs and the Longhorns media members of A to Z Sports who cover both teams decided to weigh in, sharing their predictions for this huge new SEC rivalry game.
Texas 27, Georgia 24
Crank up the hype machine and unleash the burnt orange smoke canisters. OK, those are annoying. But we digress. The biggest game in Royal-Memorial Stadium history is finally here, and there’s no reason to think the home team won’t take care of business. Texas will get three scores and two field goals, but Georgia’s Carson Beck keeps the Dawgs in the hunt all night long. Georgia and the points (plus-5) is safe here, in my view. Horns are simply better when you compare the two depth charts at the moment. TE Gunnar Helm has another big day, as will EDGE Colin Simmons. – Brian Davis
Georgia 31, Texas 29
“Play your best football.” That has been Kirby Smart’s message to his Dawgs all week. There’s a lot of people doubting this year’s Georgia team, and rightfully so, with all of the mistakes they’ve made leading up to this point in the season. But they have also fixed many of those mistakes and are locking in their team’s identity. We saw what they were capable of in the second half against Alabama. Playing lights out in Austin, TX against the Longhorns for ALL four quarters before they enter their bye week is the script they’ll follow this week. Give me Georgia. – Kelsey Kramer
Texas 30, Georgia 23
Texas is the best team in the country right now. #1 in yards per play allowed on defense. Top 3 in explosive play rate on offense. They have not one, but two elite quarterbacks in Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning who can get the job done with impressive playmakers at every skill position spot and a top tier offensive line. Georgia has one of the best coaching staffs in the country and an impressive QB in Carson Beck who has fought hard all year long, but that won't be enough. Georgia ranks outside the Top 10 in the SEC in pass rush pressures right now, which won't get it done against the Texas passing attack. The Bulldogs keep it close thanks to a couple explosive plays by Arian Smith and Trevor Etienne, but fall short in the end. – Travis May
Georgia 34, Texas 27
With some early season struggles, people seem to have completely faded the Georgia Bulldogs. This is just the world of college football in 2024 with parity at an all time high. One important factor is that Carson Beck is starting to play better football. On the other side, Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers was a little up and down last week. The calls for Arch Manning will strengthen after this weekend. – Ryan Roberts
