The Tennessee Vols got an under-the-radar off-the-field win against Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano this week ahead of a huge showdown against the Florida Gators.
247Sports' Tom Loy reported on Wednesday that 2026 five-star edge rusher Zion Elee will be in Knoxville this weekend for Tennessee's game against Florida.
Elee was supposed to be heading to Rutgers for a visit this weekend, but instead he'll be on Rocky Top.
That's got to be a tough one for Schiano, who undoubtedly has some ill-will toward Tennessee after the Vols' botched attempt to hire him as the program's head in late 2017.
Elee, 6-foot-4/220 lbs from Baltimore, MD, is rated by 247Sports as the No. 2 overall player in the 2026 recruiting class and the No. 1 edge rusher in the nation.
Scouting report via 247Sports: One of the more complete edge prospects in recent memory at this stage of the evaluation process ahead of his junior season. It feels as if he was built in a lab to get after the quarterback, verified hovering around 6-foot-4, 220 pounds with elite length measurements and a combine testing profile that could be mistaken for a field-stretching X receiver. Verified athletic markers are good enough to compare favorably against Top247 caliber senior edge rushers from the past two recruiting cycles. Outside of the athletic traits, has a natural feel for the position that allowed him to rack up 13 sacks in only nine games, even though his bag of pass-rushing moves isn't deep at this stage of his development. Building blocks of his game are his lightning-quick first step, closing burst, and ideal reactionary athleticism. Laterally explosive and can quickly move gap-to-gap or chase down ball carriers from the weak side. Motor consistently runs hot, and there might not be a better edge rusher in the 2026 cycle at quickly redirecting to wrap up evasive quarterbacks.
Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, Oregon, and Penn State are also in the mix for Elee.
The Vols already have a commitment from the No. 1 player in the 2026 recruiting class (five-star quarterback Faizon Brandon). Landing Elee would give Tennessee a legitimate chance to have a top three class in 2026. It goes without saying that this is a huge visit for the Vols. If they nail the visit and get a win against Florida, it could put Tennessee in the driver's seat in this recruitment, much to the dismay of Greg Schiano.
