The Michigan Wolverines could be getting a much-needed boost to their struggling offense this season.

This week, Michigan offensive coordinator Kirk Campbell was asked about Jack Tuttle's return from injury. While he didn't give away much, his answer should provide some hope for Wolverines' fans.

"I’m not going to fully disclose on injuries, but Jack is progressing in a very, very good manner, and he’s getting some reps here and there."

Jack Tuttle had plenty of buzz to enter the season as the starter, as he was out-performing every other quarterback throughout the spring and early summer. However, an unknown injury set him back, forcing the Wolverines to turn to Davis Warren and Alex Orji as quarterbacks.

This would be Tuttle's sixth season in college football. He spent four years at Indiana from 2019-22 before transferring to Michigan ahead of their 2023 national championship season.

In his career, Tuttle has completed 59.8% of his passes for six touchdowns and six interceptions.

Those numbers aren't encouraging, but given what we've seen out of Warren and Orji, Tuttle appears to be their best option at quarterback.

He will, in fact, be the oldest quarterback in college football this season. Tuttle is older than Cam Rising and is 25 years old. He's been playing for so long that Tuttle was the backup to Michael Penix Jr at Indiana when Penix was just a freshman

However, the coaching staff and other insiders around the Michigan program were confident in Tuttle's ability to lead this team as their starting quarterback. At Big Ten Media Day in July, head coach Sherrone Moore praised Tuttle's performance throughout the offseason.

"He’s been great. He’s been accurate. He’s been throwing it hard. Physical. Fast. And he looks good. Jack’s had the unfortunate favor of being behind Michael Penix Jr. and J.J. McCarthy."

While it doesn't seem likely that Tuttle will play against Washington this week, the Wolverines do get a bye week next week, something that could give him enough time to work back in as the starter full-time. If Michigan drops that game (currently underdogs) with Orji struggling, that could be the impetus the staff needs to make that change.

They will need a quarterback as well, with games against Illinois, Michigan State, Oregon, Indiana, and Ohio State up after their bye week.
