The Oklahoma Sooners' 2024 season has been defined by injuries all across the offensive side of the ball. They beat Auburn last week while missing WRs 1-5, and the offensive line was finally healthy for the first time this season.

While they will return Deion Burks next week against Texas, one key playmaker might be out for "several more weeks".

According to Matt Zenitz, a CFB insider for 247Sports, Nic Anderson will likely miss several games for the Sooners while he battles a quad injury.

Anderson was battling a hamstring injury to start the season, but returned in Week 4 against Tennessee. However, he played just nine snaps in that game before leaving with the quad injury.

Sooners head coach Brent Venables said after their loss to Tennessee that Anderson "strained" his quad, but didn't elaborate beyond that.

Quad injuries are a tricky recovery, and it'd be better for Anderson to fully recover than force his body to play before it's ready.

The Sooners are already missing wide receiver Jayden Gibson due to a season-ending injury suffered in the preseason. Jalil Farooq suffered an injury in their first game of the season and Deion Burks was hurt against Tennessee and missed the Auburn game. Farooq's timeline to return is also unknown.

Anderson was an elite playmaker for the Sooners in 2023, catching 10 touchdowns including the game-winner against the Texas Longhorns.

While "several more weeks" isn't a clear timeline, time is running out for Anderson to be healthy this season. If he misses the month of October, he'll miss games against Texas, South Carolina, and Ole Miss. If his injury goes into November, the Sooners have to play Maine, Missouri, Alabama, and LSU, giving Anderson just seven weeks to return this season.

The Sooners would like him back this season to help lift a struggling offense, but it might be time to consider Anderson as a redshirt candidate and for him to spend the season getting healthy for 2025.
