It looks like the Tennessee Vols could be in danger of losing a key commit to an SEC rival.
2025 four-star safety Lagonza Hayward has been committed to the Vols since late July, but he's still getting recruited by other programs.
This past weekend, Hayward was in Athens for the Georgia Bulldogs' win against the Auburn Tigers.
Hayward told On3 that the vibe in Athens wasn't quite the same as it is at Neyland while also pointing out that the opportunity at Georgia excites him.
“The opportunity does excite me because Kirby (Smart) knows ball and T-Rob (Travaris Robinson) will develop me to be the best safety I can possibly be," said Hayward. "And Kirby is a prestigious coach. He’s coached some great players.”
That doesn't sound like a flip is necessarily imminent, but it sounds like Hayward is at least intrigued by the idea of playing for the Bulldogs.
Hayward, 6-foot-1/200 lbs from Lyons, GA, is rated by 247Sports as the No. 6 safety in the nation and the No. 11 player in the state of Georgia. He's also rated as the No. 83 overall player in the 2025 recruiting class.
Suffice it to say, this is a recruit that Tennessee definitely doesn't want to lose.
The Vols will get a chance to erase Georgia from Hayward's mind this weekend when the talented defensive back visits Knoxville for Tennessee's showdown with the Florida Gators.
