It's fair to say that this season the USC Trojans shocked everyone when Week 1 kicked off against the LSU Tigers. Sure, we knew they would be able to score and make the flashy plays on offense because Lincoln Riley is still the head coach. Everyone expected that. But, after the last two years, no one expected the Trojans to have a great defense.

They made some adjustments this offseason with their weight lifting, and nutrition, and worked on getting faster. They added 1,400 total pounds to their defense this offseason, and of course, tried to convert that to muscle as much as they could. New defensive coordinator D'Anton Lynn has certainly played a huge factor as well.

But, the Trojans are already looking forward to the future, and only improving their defense. It's good this year, great even, as they pretty much shut down Michigan outside of three plays. But, they want to be even better in the future, and head coach Lincoln Riley has a plan in place for their 2025 recruiting class, to help them get where they need to be on that side of the ball.

"Potentially one more secondary player," Riley said when asked about what he's targeting in the 2025 class still. "I certainly see this class finishing strong on the O-line and D-line to complete what we think is going to be a tremendous class.”

They are only going to get better, and being in the Big 10 will certainly help their recruiting as well. They lost that game against Michigan because they still aren't quite good enough in the trenches, on both sides. They will get there though. His plan to bring in more on the line and in the secondary is the right plan to have, especially in the Big Ten.

The Trojans are going to soon be a very balanced team. Getting the bad out and bringing more good in will only help, too.
