The Tennessee Vols head to Athens this weekend to face off against the Georgia Bulldogs in what will surely be a key playoff clash for both teams. The Vols will be looking to all but lock themselves into the playoff with a win while also effectively knocking the Bulldogs out in the process.
And they'll be looking to give Kirby Smart a one-two punch in the process that he's seen before.
Tennessee will be looking to stage a repeat from part of the Bulldogs 2016 season, Smart's first as Georgia's head coach. The Vols came into Athens on October 1 that season and delivered one of the most memorable wins in Tennessee football history.
As every Tennessee fan knows, with the Vols trailing 31-28 in the game's final seconds, Josh Dobbs lofted a ball down deep downfield towards the goal line as the clock struck zero. Jauan Jennings skied in the air and grabbed the ball over a crowd in the end zone, securing victory for the Volunteers.
It was also the second straight loss for the Bulldogs, coming just one week after – you guessed it – the Bulldogs lost on the road at Ole Miss by a significant margin of 45-14. As it would be, the Bulldogs lost last Saturday to Ole Miss 28-10.
Now, the Vols will look to repeat the favor and do effectively what they did in 2016: follow up another loss to the Rebels with a win that derails the Bulldogs' season. It surely won't be easy; Vegas has already installed Georgia as a 9.5-point favorite, give or take a point.
But with this Tennessee defense, which has yet to allow a team to reach 20 points this season, anything is possible for the Vols, especially if QB Nico Iamaleava is able to play.
The Bulldogs and Vols are set to kick off on Saturday night at 7:30 pm from Athens, with the game being broadcast on ABC.
