A matchup that rivals some of the best in sports, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens are about to renew in 2024.
And while the Steelers and Ravens still employ a lot of familiar faces, there is one new man on the block who is not to be trifled with:
Ravens RB Derrick Henry:
Mike Tomlin preparing for Derrick Henry
"We got to deal with the big runner [Derrick Henry] and work to minimize his impact on the game in a couple of ways," said Mike Tomlin on Tuesday. "Specifically, not only is he capable of wearing you down over the course of the game, because he's a big man and the attrition component of it, but he's also a home run hitter with track speed…
"…So you got to deal with the wear and tear component of of his approach to play, but a bomb can also go off anytime he touches it. He can go 80, and he needs no endorsement from me in that regard, as his 2024 video confirms that. And so we got to be on guard in regards to one game all day. It's not in any particular moment, it's all day because of his skills."
Henry, despite turning 30 this year, still looks to be at the peak of his powers when analyzing his open field speed and of course, the raw torque and power that he possesses on a down-to-down basis.
Adding him to a backfield that already includes a two-time MVP via QB Lamar Jackson, the two form one of the scariest rushing duos that the league has ever seen. Henry is already over 1,200 yards from scrimmage and has accumulated 14 total TDs with seven games remaining, and his QB might be on pace for his third MVP and second in back-to-back years.
It's safe to say the Steelers will have their work cut out for them on Sunday, and Mike Tomlin knows as much.
