Hall of Fame football coach Steve Spurrier handed out a compliment to Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Jalen Milroe this week, but in typical Spurrier fashion, it was a bit of a backhanded compliment.

During his weekly appearance on Another Dooley Noted Podcast, Spurrier pointed out that Milroe played well during Alabama's 42-13 win against LSU.

Spurrier, however, suggested that Milroe looked good against LSU in part because he wasn't throwing the ball as much.

"He's (Milroe) running instead of throwing," said Spurrier. "And that's what he does best."

The insinuation from Spurrier is obviously that Milroe isn't a very good passer.

Milroe, though, might beg to differ. The Texas native has passed for 2,046 yards and 13 touchdowns in nine games so far this season while completing 67 percent of his passes.

There are a lot of programs in college football that would love to be getting that kind of production from their quarterback in the passing game.

There's no doubt that Milroe's legs are a big weapon. And he's clearly at his best when he's able to use his legs in addition to his arm, which is what he did against LSU (109 passing yards and 185 rushing yards).

Spurrier is the king of backhanded compliments and clever quips. It's nothing personal, it's just Spurrier being Spurrier — but it's still something that Milroe can use as motivation for the rest of the season.
