Well, after months of waiting for a WR trade, Pittsburgh Steelers fans can finally exhale.
Per Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports, the Steelers have acquired WR Mike Williams from the New York Jets.
Steelers Find their WR #2
For Pittsburgh, when it was clear that they're top targets of Brandon Aiyuk and Davante Adams fell through, the team turned to Mike Williams as their next target, per league sources.
There was a worry that following an injury to teammate Allen Lazard, the Jets may have opted to hold onto Williams, but a fifth-round pick likely was to good to pass on for the Jets.
Other than the draft compensation, which can be debated given your opinion on the value of a fifth-round picks, the move is a low-risk, high-reward type of transaction when analyzing the remaining salary for Williams and his potential upside as a deep threat.
To be clear, the Steelers had an interest in Williams dating back to the offseason when he was supposed to visit with the Steelers until he was unable to make it out of the Jets building.
And while he's struggled with injuries and was unable to get acclimated with Aaron Rodgers, he's an ideal running mate for George Pickens given the team's infatuation with big wideouts that can win vertically.
"Mike's [Williams] a good guy. He'll be good in that locker room," said Aaron Rodgers live on the Pat McAfee Show when learning of the trade. "Obviously got a lot of great veteran leadership. He's had a nice career and sometimes change of scenery is great for certain guys."
So in the end, Pittsburgh adds another weapon for a relatively cheap price, and with the possibility of easy separation following the last nine games. Finally, Steelers fans can rest easily as they now have a viable veteran in their WR corps.
