Texas coach Steve Sarkisian wasn’t used to having two bye weeks embedded in the regular season. It was odd, for sure.

“I think there is a lot of value in the two byes this year,” Sarkisian said. “Again, it’s not always ideal. Sometimes you just want to keep playing.”

No. 5 Texas (7-1, 3-1 SEC) gets back on the field against Florida (4-4, 2-3) at 11 a.m. Saturday at Royal-Memorial Stadium. It’s the first of a four-game drive to the regular-season finish line that, Sarkisian believes, then morphs into a long postseason run.

“I can say this for us, I think that the byes came at really good times,” Sarkisian said. “We definitely had some injuries that we were dealing with in the first bye and dealing with some injuries here at the second bye.

“We had some things that we needed to work on, especially offensively, where we're trying to get ourselves back to the standard of which we can play. So I think the timing was good for us this time around again.”

Receiver Isaiah Bond is trending toward getting back onto the field this week after suffering an ankle injury against Oklahoma. Bond missed the Vanderbilt game as a precaution and was listed as probable on Wednesday’s SEC availability report.

Texas safety Andrew Mukuba was listed as questionable on Wednesday but has been participating in practice, Sarkisian said.

This is the first time the Longhorns and Gators have met on the football field since 1940.
