You have to strike when the iron is hot, and the Ohio State Buckeyes have found their target. Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day ripped off an impressive win against Penn State last week, relieving pressure on his shoulders by beating a top-five team on the road. Now, with National Championship hopes restored, the recruiting trail has become the focus.
This week, 2026 5-star quarterback Jared Curtis earned a projection to commit to the Buckeyes. The former Georgia Bulldogs commitment is the No. 1 quarterback in his class. Considering the Buckeyes already have 2025 consensus top-two quarterback prospect Tavien St. Clair committed, Day is going for the throat of his competition.
The Nashville native is an impressive pocket passer, already boasting NFL size despite being so young. He can run as well, fitting the mold of St. Clair where he looks like a traditional downfield thrower, but has the mobility of a new-age passer who can help Day maximize the offense.
South Carolina has been named a serious contender for Curtis, but On3's prediction machine considers the Buckeyes the favorite. Oregon, Alabama, and Georgia are still involved.
Here's a scouting report on Curtis from 247Sports' Andrew Ivins.
A big-armed quarterback prospect with some moxie. Owns a favorable build having measured roughly 6-foot-3, 215 pounds as a 9th grader. Started football career off playing running back before getting a look under center. Instantly found success at his new position, earning Mr. Football runner-up honors in Tennessee after a freshman campaign in which he won 10 games and totaled just over 2,750 yards of offense. Not afraid to dial up the deep ball and tends to connect on plenty of vertical shots. Also excels at hitting timing-based breaking routes over the middle. Shouldn’t be classified as a true dual-treat talent, but can move the chains with his legs and work off-script when the pocket collapses. Camp footage shows both pace and touch. Must keep developing and learn how to read the complex defenses he will face at the next level, but looks like one of the top signal callers early on in the 2026 cycle. Likely to find success in a variety of different offensive systems given his well-rounded skill set.
