2026 five-star running back Savion Hiter is a "top priority" for the Tennessee Vols.

Hiter, 5-foot-11/182 lbs from Mineral, VA, is rated in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 1 running back in the nation and the No. 1 player in the state of Virginia. He's also rated as the No. 16 overall player in the 2026 recruiting class.

According to Rivals.com, the five-star recruit, who has been linked to Michigan at times during his recruitment, was told by Tennessee's coaching staff that he's the program's top priority.

From Rivals.com: Michigan has been the early program to watch in Hiter’s recruitment but the Tennessee coaching staff made it clear he’s the “top priority” in the 2026 class during a weekend visit to Knoxville.

The Wolverines, Volunteers, Penn State, Georgia and Ohio State round out his top five and the 2026 high four-star running back from Mineral (Va.) Louisa County will determine even bigger favorites after all his visits this season.

Hiter visited Tennessee for the Vols' win against Kentucky earlier this month, so he's seen Neyland Stadium at its best.

There's still a long way to go in this recruiting battle — I wouldn't expect Hiter to make a decision before next year — but it's clear that Tennessee is doing everything they can to bring the dynamic running back to Rocky Top. It certainly doesn't hurt that Vols running back Dylan Sampson is having a career year in 2024, which shows Hiter what's possible for a running back in Tennessee's offensive system.
