It has been an extremely bizarre season for LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, who has been good at times, and terrible at others. We have seen a lot of ups and downs, which is expected for a first year starter. Despite that, we have seen a lot of fanfare for the Tiger signal caller.

Several respected NFL Draft analysts even boasted Nussmeier as one of the top quarterbacks in the 2025 NFL Draft class. Those takes, however, did seem to be pretty premature. There have been some good moments, but we have seen Nussmeier implode over the last few weeks.

In total, his numbers are pretty ordinary for what we have seen under center for the Tigers over the years. If you take out his 6-touchdown performance against FCS Nicholls State, or his 409-yard passing outing against South Alabama, his numbers are rather pedestrian. In total he has thrown for 2,155 yards and 13 touchdowns against Power Five teams, including 13 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

That is a completion percentage below 61 percent, a 7.2 yard per attempt average, and has managed to rush for just two yards on 17 carries. It’s been ugly, especially the last two games against Texas A&M and Alabama.

We have steadily seen people begin to fade Nussmeier, now questioning his place amongst the top signal callers in the country and 2025 NFL Draft class. It’s uncertain what the future holds now. Could he regain his footing and still declare early? Could he return to LSU in 2025, or should he transfer?

The best case scenario for Nussmeier to get back on track down the stretch, and potentially have some options on the table. It begins this weekend against the Florida Gators, a team that is trending downward fast. Sitting with a 4-5 overall record, the Gators are fighting to get to bowl eligibility and the odds aren’t great right now.

They are very banged up in the secondary and will be without their top cornerback Jason Marshall Jr. As a pass rush, Florida has recorded just 16.5 sacks as a team. There is no reason that Nussmeier shouldn’t get back on track against this struggling pass defense. And if it doesn’t, then the alarms need to start to go off.
