If Tennessee Vols quarterback Nico Iamaleava can't play against the Georgia Bulldogs this weekend, co-hosts Greg McElroy and Cole Cubelic of McElory and Cubelic in the Morning don't think UT can win in Athens.
Iamaleava is reportedly in the concussion protocol after suffering an injury in Tennessee's win against Mississippi State. His status for the game against Georgia is undetermined at this point in the week.
If Iamaleava can't play, redshirt senior Gaston Moore, who played the entire second half against Mississippi State, would start against Georgia on Saturday night.
And if that ends up being what transpires, the Vols have no chance according to McElroy and Cubelic.
"Can Tennessee stay in this game? Can they be competitive with Gaston Moore as the quarterback," asked Cubelic.
"No," responded McElroy.
"I don't believe so either," continued Cubelic. "Because then you stack the box and your dynamic running back Dylan Sampson is removed from the game because we know what Georgia's got up front — even though that Tennessee [offensive line] and group of tight ends are very physical — you're not going to be able to offset that. And I don't see how it's competitive if that's the case."
"No, I don't see a scenario, and I don't know a lot about Gaston Moore," added McElroy. "All I know is against Bama he went in and was 0 for 1 with an interception. A pretty bad interception I might add. So I've seen him throw one pass this year and it wasn't good."
There's a lot of speculation out there about whether or not Iamaleava will play against Georgia. For now, it's nothing more than speculation as no decision has been made.
However, if Moore is forced to start against the Bulldogs, he'll have plenty of motivation to perform well after hearing McElroy and Cubelic's comments on Wednesday.
