The Minnesota Vikings had to make a difficult decision this offseason when they let go of quarterback Kirk Cousins.

It wasn't a decision made lightly, as the Vikings did make an offer to keep Cousins but he chose to sign with the Atlanta Falcons during free agency. One of the reasons why the Vikings chose to move on was due to his tendency to throw short of the sticks during key situations.

That tendency came out in the worst way against the New York Giants in the 2022 playoffs when he threw a three-yard pass to T.J. Hockenson on fourth and eight. He did the same thing on Sunday against the New Orleans Saints on fourth and four by throwing to Ray Ray McCloud in the flats on fourth and four.

Not only did he throw short of the line of scrimmage, Cousins threw it late so the clock expired and the game ended. That's a brutal way to lose a football game and one that Vikings fans know all too well.

This is why the Vikings chose to move on and develop J.J. McCarthy and use Sam Darnold as the bridge quarterback. It's one that has paid off so far, as the Vikings are 7-2 without much drop-off in quarterback production.

There were plenty of fans that wanted to keep Cousins, but this was the right call.
