ESPN's latest bowl game prediction for the Tennessee Vols in 2024 has UT head coach Josh Heupel competing against a familiar face from his past.
College football insider Mark Schlabach has Tennessee playing the Michigan Wolverines in the Citrus Bowl (which means he doesn't think the Vols will reach the 12-team College Football Playoff).
Sherrone Moore took over as the head coach at Michigan this past offseason after Jim Harbaugh left Ann Arbor to become the new head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers.
Moore is a former Oklahoma Sooners offensive lineman who played in Norman from 2006 to 2007.
Heupel was the Sooners' quarterbacks coach during Moore's time at Oklahoma.
Additionally, Moore transferred from the junior college ranks to Oklahoma in late 2005 along with current Vols offensive coordinator Joey Halzle (and they were teammates for a couple of seasons).
Suffice it to say, there's plenty of familiarity between Moore and Tennessee's top two offensive play-callers.
Former Vols linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary, who left Knoxville earlier this year, is also on Michigan's coaching staff.
Tennessee fans are obviously hoping the Vols reach the College Football Playoff this season. But if they don't, a matchup against Michigan would certainly be fun.
