It was a scary scene on Thursday Night Football when Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa left their game against the Buffalo Bills with another scary concussion during the third quarter. It was a recurring issue during the 2022 season, where the former Alabama star had some scary moments with a lot of people wondering what the long term could bring. Luckily Tagovailoa was able to avoid those issues in 2023, being rewarded with a massive four-year, $212.4 million extension.

After this most recent scary incident, it isn’t overly surprising that Tagovailoa was the main topic of conversation this morning, far outweighing the 31-10 loss to the Bills. That included Good Morning Football where the crew discussed the incident. Among those discussing it was former Notre Dame and NFL linebacker Manti Te’o, who is from Hawaii like Tagovailoa.

You could tell there was a personal relationship there, with Te’o getting very emotional while discussing. Here is what Te’o had to say:

After he suffered the one against the Bengals, I wanted him to walk. When I saw him have to be carted off the field, I wanted him to walk. That was hard, bro. What people have to understand is that this is just a game, and then there’s life. When you watch a young man that you have known since he was a little boy, I can’t imagine how hard it is for (his family)… For someone who has a concussion, I don’t even know if Tua is there as he’s walking off the field. I want the best for Tua, the man, the father.

The emotion, and realness in Te’o’s voice said everything. Tagovailoa has the right to choose to play if he wants, but those decisions need to start to get harder. It’s an unfortunate event, and one we hope we don’t see again. There’s more to life than football, and a decision does need to be made moving forward.
