Should Auburn start worrying about Deuce Knight and their ability to flip him from Notre Dame?
At this point, Notre Dame football fans are sick of the constant conversations centered around 2025 quarterback commit Deuce Knight. At this point, Notre Dame football fans are sick of the constant conversations centered around 2025 quarterback commit Deuce Knight. Over the last month and a half, we have been blitzed with rumor after rumor of a decommitment. Ole Miss was the trendy team early, although there was never a ton to that.
Then Auburn entered the picture, and traction was quickly created. So much so, that it has seemed for a long time now that it was only a matter of time until he flipped, not whether he would. Auburn has been an attractive destination for Knight, and he hasn’t been shy about it, at least to their staff.
For now the third time in four weeks, the 6-5, 205-pound dual threat signal caller will return to Auburn for their game against Arkansas. It is also believed that Knight has already solidified an official visit back to see the Tigers for their home game against Oklahoma the weekend of September 28th.
In recruiting, following the actions and the words is always the best course of action. While Knight might still be technically committed to Notre Dame, and has been since last September, the writing is clearly on the wall. Whether it’s Auburn or someone else, it doesn’t feel like he is going to sign with the Irish barring something unforeseen.
There is, however, a big question that does need to be asked. What is the holdup with making the decision public? By all indications, Knight has been making the Auburn staff feel really good about their standing, and he has continuously made the trip back to campus, but nothing has followed up.
It felt like it was going to happen during the home opener, and then the next week. There was even anticipation that it could have happened before the season, but momentum did keep a snap. If it doesn’t happen soon, Auburn should start to get very nervous. Something feels very off here.
For my money, I don’t believe Knight will end up with Notre Dame. The more this plays out, I am not so sure it will be Auburn either. They need to close the deal soon, or they might not be able to.
