It wasn't long ago that Shaquille Leonard was wreaking havoc on NFL offenses as a member of the Indianapolis Colts.
Unfortunately, injuries derailed his career, but he was on a legendary trajectory, which led the Colts to release the three-time All-Pro linebacker.
Leonard remains a free agent after finishing last season with the Philadephia Eagles. But he isn't letting that keep him off the football field. Leonard is serving on the coaching for a local high school in South Carolina.
Leonard has traded his helmet for a clipboard (at least for now). He is a member of the coaching staff of Lake View High School in South Carolina, where he played and graduated. Before he made a name for himself as a member of the Colts, Leonard was setting state records.
He currently holds the state record for total tackles in South Carolina, which has led him to be named into the South Carolina State Athletics Hall of Fame next week. I think I speak for all Colts fans when I say the city of Indianapolis will forever root for "The Maniac," on and off the field in his future endeavors.
Walking around Lucas Oil Stadium on game day, Leonard's 53 jersey is still very well represented by fans in attendance. And I think his time with the team and the community made a huge impact that will not disappear anytime soon.
