Colts undrafted free agent that the rest of the league forgot about is already making Indianapolis look smart ahead of OTAs
The Colts are starting organized team activities this week, and there is one UDFA who is already generating labels he will love ahead of the team gathering process.
The Indianapolis Colts will be joining much of the league this week when they start organized team activities. While the pillars of the offense probably won’t do much as both Daniel Jones and Alec Pierce recover from injuries, it will be the rookie class that captures everyone’s attention for most of the summer.
That class includes undrafted free agents, of course, and one UDFA has been given a label that every rookie would love.
West Weeks named the Colts most exciting UDFA
“Off-ball linebackers who are drafted on Day 3 or signed as undrafted free agents are generally viewed as special teams-types entering the NFL. Weeks played quite a bit of special teams at LSU, and Colts assistant general manager Ed Dodds told reporters the 6’1″ 230-pounder is already showing out in that regard.”
“The Colts added a likely Week 1 starter at the position in second-round pick C.J. Allen and doubled down on Day 3 with Bryce Boettcher. But the depth chart at linebacker is unsettled in Indianapolis, and while Weeks doesn’t have great range, he’s a physical and instinctive defender. – Gary Davenport, Bleacher Report
West Weeks 2025 stats
- 74 total tackles.
- 8 tackles for loss.
- 2.5 sacks.
What West Weeks needs to do to make the Colts roster
For the Colts, their LB corps has experienced a massive overhaul. The past two off-seasons have seen the departures of both E.J. Speed and Zaire Franklin, and it’s obvious that the Colts recognized that in their draft strategy.
The projected starting trio in Indy would be Akheem Davis-Gaither, CJ Allen, and Bryce Boettcher. But behind those three, it might as well be open season. That’s where someone with the experience, intangibles, and instincts of a West Weeks makes his name in OTAs and training camp.
It won’t be easy to make the roster, but as a valuable addition to the special teams unit, given his tackling and intensity, I could see Weeks making the team.
